OUR STORY
Kariko is the latest chapter in a family furniture-making story that began in Melbourne in 1998. From our Sunshine West workshop, every vanity, shaving cabinet and benchtop is designed and made by our own team—from the selection and machining of each material through to joinery, assembly and hand-finishing.
Keeping every stage of production under one roof allows us to maintain exacting standards and tailor each piece to the space it will inhabit. Nothing is imported or flat-packed. The result is considered Australian-made bathroom furniture, crafted with purpose and made to endure.
OUR BEGINNING
Our story began in the humble setting of a family garage, where we crafted timber bedroom furniture with an enduring respect for natural materials and traditional workmanship.
As our reputation grew, so did the business. Our furniture found its way into homes throughout Australia through some of the country’s leading retailers. This experience allowed us to refine our craft over decades, combining the precision of modern manufacturing with the attention to detail of traditional furniture making.
While the scale of our work evolved, our values remained unchanged: thoughtful design, uncompromising quality and pride in everything we create.
A NEW DIRECTION
As the Australian furniture industry changed and imported, mass-produced products became increasingly common, we faced an important decision. Rather than compromise the quality of our work, we chose to return our focus to what had always distinguished us—local manufacturing, beautiful natural materials and furniture made with care.
From that decision, Kariko was born.
We turned our attention to the bathroom, creating timber vanities and shaving cabinets that bring the warmth and character of finely crafted furniture into one of the home’s most personal spaces.
Working directly with our customers allows us to offer a more considered experience, with the freedom to customise dimensions, materials and configurations to suit each interior.
